Travel Plan
School Travel Plan
You will have noticed the roads approaching the school have recently had a red coating and SLOW warning painted onto the road surface. Or you may have appreciated the shelters outside the Y1 classroom. These have been made possible due to funding from Sheffield City Council, thanks to our travel plan.
What is a travel plan?
A School Travel Plan is a document produced by pupils, parents, school staff and governors, in partnership with the community and Sheffield City Council, to manage its methods and resources for getting children to and from school safely. All schools must have a plan by 2010.
The main reason for writing a School Travel Plan is to reduce the number of cars on the school run every morning and encourage other modes of transport such as walking, cycling and public transport. They should also include realistic and achievable aims that will improve children?s health and safety, education, the school environment and help in combating social exclusion.
Our travel plan
This is the second year of our travel plan and we have been awarded 2 stars by the council.
Some of the points from our school's travel plan are:
- Make curriculum links and increase children's awareness of pedestrian safety - using Road Safety lessons and assemblies
- Find out how staff travel to school - is it practical to share lifts or walk?
- Find out where parents who drive to school, park - to encourage safe parking procedures
- Use funding to improve road safety on Hillfoot Road - will provide a calmer, safer environment outside the school gates
